“It excites me when our students have a win and they want to share that with me” - Leslie Wester
Leslie Wester has been a Triton faculty member for 10 years. She is tenured and works as a counselor, in addition to teaching college success courses. During the 2019-2020 school year, she was also an academic advising liaison. In the Counseling Department, Wester assists students and community members with handling academic planning and scheduling, addressing career concerns, and discussing personal and social-emotional concerns.
“Everything is about our students. I want to encourage our students to help them understand that they are in control,” Wester said. “My work is about helping them understand that ‘it’s about you.’ There is a lot of empowering students to own their own future,” she said.
Wester is an active member of the Triton community and her committee work over the years is one of the reasons she was selected as an honoree. The PDC acknowledged her campus-wide commitment, not only to counseling, but all aspects of the Triton College experience. She has been involved with various committees including Strategic Planning, Academic Support, Behavior Intervention, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, First Year Experience and Guided Pathways Onboarding.
“We have some pretty awesome people that work here,” Wester said. “It’s nice to be recognized for the work that you do.”
